Shea Butter History

Shea butter comes from the nut of the shea tree, which grows in the savannah region of Africa. It is known as "the Tree of Life" in Africa, where it has been used for thousands of years as a treatment for dry skin. The nut in the center of the fruit, when traditionally crushed and boiled to extract the oil, is what yields the vegetable fat known as shea butter. It has a high content of fatty acids which gives shea butter the ability to retain the elasticity of the skin. Shea butter also helps to protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun.
